Why techies should move to Bristol
Oh, Bristol…
The ‘happiest city in the UK’, the ‘next Silicon Valley’, and simply our home. With thousands flocking here every year (which, to be honest, comes as no surprise to us!) here are 7 reasons why you need to move to Bristol.
Best food scene in the UK
All right. We know this sounds like quite the claim, however, hear us out. Independent food shops are abundant in Bristol, and let us tell you, they’re exceptionally good. From Gloucester Road to St. Nick’s Market and over the bridge to Wapping Wharf, you’ll find any cuisine, and a vast range of choices, too. You name it, Bristol’s got it, and one more time… most of them are independent gems.

Creativity is everywhere
As you probably already know, Bristol’s economy mainly depends on creative media, electronics and aerospace industries. When you wander around the quirky streets of Bristol, you’ll likely spot incredible works of art by renowned graffiti artist, Banksy, cleverly crafted on the sides of buildings under the cover of the night. There’s no wonder that here in Bristol lies a wealth of passionate and highly creative freelance designers, photographers and illustrators, as well as a rapidly growing tech and digital industry. With such creativity, ideas are born, start-ups arise and industry is created; Bristol is quickly becoming the place to be for technology wizards, and start-ups.
It is the ‘next Silicon Valley’
And on that note – Bristol and tech go hand in hand as Bristol is named the next Silicon Valley. With tech giants dotted all over the city, the technology sector is fast on the rise as Bristol is home to Sony, Oracle, Amazon, Just Eat, Hewlett Packard, Strava and Dyson, and more are popping up all the time…
If you think you’ll miss the ‘Big Smoke’, chances are, you wont
Bristol has been named time after time as the best and happiest city in the UK to live. Its expanding independent trade culture is loved and supported by everyone, meaning that businesses simply thrive here. With the UK’s longest street of independent shops (Gloucester Road), there’s nowhere quite like Bristol and with so much to do from the incredible music scene, ‘The Harbourside’ eateries to city festivals, green areas and more, our buzzing city is also surrounded by breath taking countryside – the Mendips and Cotswolds.(AONBs – Area of Natural Beauty).
Bristol’s history makes it something out of the ordinary
There’s nothing quite like a city that is rich with history. It’s the difference between personality and no personality, tourism and no tourism, culture and no culture. Bristol is flooded with positive legacies, maritime connections with European countries where wine, wool, fish and grain were brought to the UK during the Middle Ages, as well as a much darker slave trade history. Not only is there Bristol, but just a 13-minute train journey through the valley lies Bath, a stunning city famous for its inspiring 18th century Georgian architecture such as The Royal Crescent, as well as the arresting Roman baths which are fed by the sacred hot spring.
